Upper School Intersession

Intersession Update – Our first Intersession will be held October 23rd-November 3rd. The first 6 weekdays of Intersession is dedicated to EBIA Connect. Centered around STEAM focused community service and service learning and STEAM focused college and career readiness, these projects are a chance for students to put our Innovator Norms in action while giving back to the community.  Students then have 2 days of end of trimester preparation, followed by two days of PLP conferences.

Below are a few quick FYIs on intersession:

  • Students will submit project preferences in advisory the week of October 2nd, and will receive their project assignments via email the week of October 9th.

    • Projects will run October 23rd- 27th and 30th.  The End of First Trimester Presentation of Learning will include Intersession projects and partner organizations. This event will be held during the day on October 30th at EBIA from 10:30 am- 12:00 pm.

    • Intersession will run from 8:30 am to 3:45 pm.

    • Most projects will take place at EBIA.  For those students in off-site projects, transportation will be coordinated by EBIA. Therefore, for all students, pick up and drop off will be at EBIA.

    • On intersession project days, students will begin and end their day in advisory.

    • After the conclusion of intersession projects, students will be in their courses and with their advisors on October 30th and November 1st for PLP preparation. November 2nd and 3rd are PLP conference days.  Please note, PLP conference days are non-attendance days for students.  Advisors will schedule and hold PLP meetings with their advisory families.

  • We are also looking for volunteers to support as chaperones and project assistants. If you are interested (or interested in learning more) please email .

As many of you know, intersession represents an opportunity to gradually release our students towards college and career readiness in STEAM fields across grades 6-12.  While in our Lower School students select STEAM activities from a menu of options, starting in Upper School these activities begin to turn into more formal projects, internships and self-directed research.

What is Intersession?

  • – A pause in our regular academic program
  • – STEAM-centered, hands on, curriculum aligned projects
  • – An opportunity to engage in design thinking

Why does EBIA have Intersession?

  • – To promote college and career readiness
  • – To support students in engaging with their broader Oakland community
  • – To provide space for students to test out activities and find their passions
